Kimber Custom II – Buy This Gun Now
Who doesn’t enjoy a great 1911 Pistol?
That is exactly what I was saying to a good friend of mine at a gun show a few weeks back. We were walking through the place looking for some reloading supplies having a great time. We were debating about what the idea gun is. What makes it something that you can’t wait to use on the weekends at the range?
Understanding What It Takes To Make A Great Pistol
Who doesn’t know about Kimber? The first time that I was shooting a Kimber, I fell in love. This was around 1997 and I was shooting a USPSA match in Houston. At the time I was running a Colt 1991A1 that I had spent many hours customizing. Back in those days, everyone had to customize their pistols before they competed. Then walks in Kimber’s Classic models. I immediately started falling in love. Beaver tail, check! Novak style site, check! Skeletonize trigger, check! Skeletonize hammer, check! The list keeps going on and on. And all of this for under $750.00. It is twice the pistol with only half of the cost, a shooters dream coming true. All of this without sacrificing quality.
That is what was missing from production pistols during that time. Or at a minimum, it was missing from reasonably priced production models. Kimber started breaking the mold for how all other builders we going to have to do things in the future.
Getting Better With Time
Kimber is known for researching what customers needs are and deliver on that. The Custom II is no exception to this. This particular pistol has me over the moon with its features and its overall quality.
The first thing that I notice when I open the box is the overall quality of the pistol finish. The bluing of the slide is very high quality and the front slide serration are crip. Furthermore, the Novak style sites make for very easy sight acquisition with a solid balance. However, I think that by adding a fiber optic or some high contrast front sight would be the icing on the cake.
Moving to the frame, one sees that Kimber has high polished the stainless steel. This particular model does not come with a rail and my feeling is that is was the right choice. I personally am not a fan of using any lights on my pistols as I just don’t have a good use for them. Besides, I am not excited about buying new holsters. This model comes with a match grade barrel and bushing and full length guide rod to ensure accuracy.
Furthermore, standard on this model is the combat hammer and matched beaver tail. This combo fits perfectly and with the checkered flat main spring housing make for a great fitting gun. Adding the 4-5lb trigger that has slack adjustments just tops this whole package. Lastly, as you would imagine, the rosewood grips just finish out the overall look and feel.
But Can I Afford A Custom Kimber
But that is what makes this a real home run! With an MSRP of $837.00, you might be wondering what Kimber was thinking. All of these standard features and upgrades should make a pistol’s price be considerably higher. That just isn’t in Kimber’s business model. Believing in putting quality guns in the hands of shooters is a Kimber priority.
At Heritage Jewelry and Loan we share in the belief that great guns shouldn’t cost fortune. We currently are stocking this Fantastic Kimber Custom II new for a shockingly impressive $749.99.
